Heavy Duty Mechanic

K&D Contracting, an established road construction company, is seeking a skilled Heavy
Equipment Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in
maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, with a focus on mobile forestry equipment.
This role requires expertise in various mechanical systems, including electrical, and
automotive repair, as well as experience with heavy equipment operation. The job involves
in-town and camp work and is based at various locations on the North Island. The shop is
currently located on the Gold River Hwy but will be moving to Barge Terminal location.
Duties
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including haul
trucks (including autonomous CAT trucks), loaders, graders, dozers, excavators,
drills, rock trucks and highway trucks.
• Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot problems effectively.
• Conduct electrical repairs and maintenance to ensure optimal performance of
machinery.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs, services performed, and parts used.
• Operate heavy equipment as necessary for testing and diagnostics.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment.
Requirements
• Interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment
Technician or Truck & Transport Mechanic . Proven experience as a Heavy
Equipment Mechanic or similar role.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues in a dynamic operational
environment
• Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild key systems including engines, transmissions,
and cooling components
• Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for the position.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication skills to provide outstanding team communications.
• Valid driver’s license may be required for operating equipment on-site.
